Oil pulling in Ayurveda is termed as “gardusa” and this is done on a daily regimen as part of the cleansing requirement for our body. This practise is done in the early morning to prevent us from getting sick. It involves a full 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil or organic white sesame oil depending on your health requirement.
- If you are have some common symptoms of mouth ulcer, bad breath, gum bleeding – choose organic pure coconut oil for oil pull.
- If you have common symptoms of sensitive gum, teeth sensitivity, dry mouth, cracked lips, to nourish your gum and teeth – choose organic pure sesame oil.
Put 2 tablespoons of oil of choice to fill your mouth and close your mouth to hold the oil inside your mouth for about 2-3 minutes without doing any gargle. You will feel the sensation of activating your salivary gland and you will feel that your mouth is ‘full’. Begin to gargle the oil inside the mouth to the top, bottom, back and front of the mouth with your mouth closed to hold the oil inside.
Do this for 2 minutes. Then spit out the choky looking oil into the toilet bowl to flush it away.
This form of exercising the muscles around our mouth and upper part of your throat – activates your salivary gland to produce saliva and same time the oil pulls out the bacteria that is hiding beneath your tongue, upper trachea/Esophagus. The gateway to the body for such a contamination is the mouth. This will lessen your chance of bacteria having an entry to your gut system from your mouth and also improves dental health.
This method is very efficient to reduce inflammation when you are having a sore throat. The oil pull reduces the inflammation and pain discomfort. Do this for a few times daily to ease and heal your sore throat and discomfort and irritation in the upper throat region.
You can chose to do this oil pull after brushing your teeth in the morning and before going to bed.
Therefore, in removing toxins at the source before they get a chance to spread, the body undergoes a complete detox. Oil pulling is also a good method to remove bacteria and headaches can also be avoided.
