Basic Understanding of Organic Farming and Regenerative Farming

More and more farmers today are acquiring knowledge from environmentalist, education institutions and research organisations to understand and learn how to manage their land for an improved environment, animal and human health.

Looking at the interest to improve the cleanliness to the air, water, produce and having a healthier environment would engage comprehensive farming methods, animal welfare, fair trade and fair labour practices. Some benefits of regenerative farming include: –

  • Decrease the use of chemical inputs and thus reducing pollution
  • More productive soil techniques that address the challenge of climate change while preserving nutrients in the soil
  • Increase soil organic matters and diversity – build soil carbon, increase water retention, support soil biology and ecosystem diversity
  • Improve land resources for future usage

Organic Farming is a term that defines products produced under the authority of the Organic Foods Production certification guidelines. It spells specific conditions by integrating cultural, biological, and processes that foster resources to promote ecological balance. It is commonly known and accepted that organic produce is grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and genetically modified organisms. In this context, animal that produces meat, poultry, eggs and dairy produce are not given antibiotics or growth hormones.

Whether both these types of farming are complementary to each other, it is defined with each country’s agriculture policies of complementing it on the assessments to include the environment impact for food production, the challenges faced by the national dietary guidelines for the health of the human population and the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To our own research and opinion of eating healthy, we will need to evaluate the source and integrity of each farm produce. We can analyse and consider purchasing their respective produce for our consumption by understanding their respective extent of their principal practice of organic grown produce against their regenerative farm principles application or these farms will only produce organic produce.
