ORAC stands for unit measure of the antioxidant capacity of food, the higher, the better. It is widely believed that high antioxidant food helps greatly to lower the risks of various chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer, neuronal degeneration and other diseases. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables are considered to be excellent source of antioxidants. Some herbs and spices also have a role as supplementary antioxidants. Below is the list of food with its Orac measured value for your own guideline. You will notice that most of the spices and herbs that I have kept recommending in my cooking recipes and in my Ayurvedic practise home remedies are among the highly measured Orac rated food items.
Consider making an effort to obtain these in organic form and consume them more in your normal daily diet. Again I would like to state again that the list is a guideline of the choice of food that you can add to your diet and this does not means that you should stick to the highest Orac value food to eat. These are added guidelines to an overall healthy choice of my practise – “multi colour choice of fruits and vegetables should be eaten in your diet” and these spices should be added more to your cooking modality.
